Meet the partners: Naja Dyrendom Graugaard from Aalborg University

The AAU (Aalborg University, Denmark) team of the AlSiCal project is researching appropriate social impact assessments (SIA) frameworks for the AlSiCal project. This work is expected to provide recommendations and mitigation measures of the social impacts of anorthosite mining. The AAU team consists of Professor Anne Merrild Hansen, Assistant Professor Sara Bjørn Aaen, and post.doc. Naja Dyrendom Graugaard.

Post.doc. Naja Dyrendom Graugaard at Aalborg University is researching how social impacts are ‘gendered’, because impacts of extractive industries have shown to be gender differentiated. “In practice, this means that women often experience a disproportionate burden of adverse effects and are less likely to gain from the benefits. In order to contribute to sustainable development, it is therefore vital to consider ways to ensure and enhance women’s rights and gender equality as part of the impact assessment process.”

In order to identify appropriate gender-responsive assessment tools and frameworks for the AlSiCal project, Graugaard is currently reviewing the existing scholarly and practical work with regards to gender impact assessment. She expects to finalize an academic review article on this topic this coming summer of 2021.
